About Ben Atkind
From the colorful and classical music scene of Boston to national sold-out performances, Ben Atkind has carved a distinctive path as a dynamic and versatile professional drummer.
The Atkind ascent
At the Berklee College of Music, he honed his percussive skills under the tutelage of renowned instructors and the school’s world-famous curriculum, refining his musical abilities to a professional level. As a result, Atkind’s foundation is built upon a deep understanding of rhythm and groove, and most importantly, a relentless pursuit of musical excellence.
The world first met Atkind as a founding member of the Connecticut-based rock quintet Goose. During this project, Atkind experienced an impressive ascent, fueled by years of dedicated touring, an extensive vocabulary in all things percussion, and a rapidly growing grassroots following.
Onward to bigger and better visions
Soon, Atkind’s rise continued beyond the scope of his first band to other elevated musical projects. Atkind’s passion for collaboration and exploration shines through his involvement in other exciting projects. He is a core member in both Houseplant and ElephantProof and has also worked with artists such as DJ Logic, Jon Gutwillig, Club d’Elf and The All’s Eye.
As the drummer for ElephantProof, a Boston-based quartet, Atkind contributes his heartfelt and energetic rhythms to the four-piece’s unique sonic tapestry. His playing is an effortless blend of jazz complexities, funk grooves, and a versatility that spans from hip-hop to fusion. A style which has become a signature element of the band’s captivating sound. As a new member of Houseplant, Atkind has been tasked with applying his unique touch to bring the band to the next level.
Atkind’s ceaseless commitment to learning and his profound connection with his audience – who affectionately know by his playful moniker "Spuds" – creates an electrifying and magnetic energy during all of his live performances. And seriously…bring him potatoes. He insisted that this be included on his website.
Ben is proudly endorsed by Zildjian Cymbals and Vic Firth drumsticks.
Connection on another level
To aspiring drummers, Atkind offers simple yet powerful advice: "The road to success as a musician will undoubtedly be harder than you expect - Keep grinding. Also study jazz!"
